“Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open. ”
Likes: Art of making Potions, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Dark Arts itself, Lily Evans (Potter), causing Harry grief
Dislikes: James Potter, Gryffindors, laziness, being called a coward, arrogant people, the Dark Lord (for what he did to Lily)
Habits: being cold and sarcastic, causing Harry trouble, authoritarian methods in his classes, like slapping a book across a student's head (mostly Ron and Harry)
Personality: Severus is described as being cold and cynical, as well as malicious, bitter and sarcastic. In his classes he has a commanding presence, that exuded gravitas, authority and control. He tends to hold grudges and is extremely spiteful toward those he dislikes, particularly Gryffindor students. He thinks them to be arrogant and attention-seeking.
In his early life, Severus was insecure, vulnerable and he yearned to be part of something bigger. His bitterness and resentment toward the world was only increased by the constant bullying that he had to endure in school (especially from James Potter and Sirius Black).
Snape was also quite studious and discovered quite a few new spells. Sectumsempra and the healing spell Vulnera Sanentur being two of them.
Severus Snape is an extremely private person, viewing display of emotions as a shameful weakness. His control of his emotions and his skills to conceal his true thoughts and feelings make him unpredictable and an excellent Occlumens. This also allows him to maintain his cold, collected demeanour. However, even Snape has his limits. He sometimes did lose his temper, especially when it came to dealing with Harry and he's also enraged when someone accuses him of cowardice.
Snape has a subtle and keen analytic mind. As a professor he has much higher standards for his classes than other teachers. He only lets those with extremely good grades continue into advanced study. He has a harshly authoritarian attitute toward his teaching.
Still, his past and his unconditional love for Lily Evans define his inner being. Compared to the Dark Lord, Severus is able to love. The fact that he told his then-master Lord Voldemort about the prophecy he overheard, is his something he regrets deeply, because it endangered Lily and ultimately cost her life. Now, although he'd never admit it, he does everything in his power to protect Harry Potter, the only child of his true love.

Hometown: Spinner's End, Cokeworth, England
Father: Tobias Snape
Mother: Eileen Snape, née Prince
Siblings: n/a
Others: Lily Evans (Potter), Albus Dumbledore
History: Severus Snape was born as the son of Eileen Prince, a pureblood witch, and Tobias Snape, a muggle. He grew up in Spinner's End, which must have been close to where Lily and Petunia Evans grew up, because he met them when he was 9 years old. In the years to come, Severus fell deeply in love with Lily, however never ended up actually dating her. Still, they became close friends. Severus knew that Lily was a witch, like he himself was a wizard and he told her that at some point.
He grew up uncared for by his parents, them often fighting and Severus couldn't wait to return to Hogwarts by the end of the Summer. He always returned to Spinner's End when he was not at school.
From an early age on, Severus had a passion for the Dark Arts, knowing more curses and hexes in his first year than any seventh year did. Or so Sirius said. However, his interest in the Dark Arts strained his friendship with Lily further. It was already strained because of her friendship to James Potter, whom Severus considered a rival. During one of those fights, Lily came to help Severus, however he was so angry that he called her a mudblood, which basically ruined their friendship, because no matter how many times he apologised, Lily wouldn't forgive him. This would forever be his worst memory.
He was a studious student and quite talented wizard even when he was young. He discovered several new spells and he also had a liking for Potion-making.
When Lord Voldemort first rised, Snaped joined the Death Eaters, like so many of his Slytherin school mates. He mostly does this out of his yearning to belong to something bigger, something better. This probably started because of the constant bullying he had to endure as a student, especially by James Potter and Sirius Black.
However, he was the only Death Eater who was able to conjure a full Patronus. Probably because of his love for Lily.
After overhearing the Prophecy, Snape went and told his then-master Voldemort about it, however he soon realised that he had made a big mistake, because this only resulted in Voldemort hunting down Lily Potter and her husband. Even though he's asked the Dark Lord to spare her life, he knew he wouldn't do so. Out of dispair and full of remorse he went to Dumbledore for help, offering his services as a double-agent to him.
Once the wizarding War was over, Dumbledor employed Severus as Head of Slytherin House and Potions-Master, although he originally applied for the Defence Against the Dark Arts spot. While many are uncertain about Snape's true loyalties and ambitions, he has Dumbledore's full trust.
