Habits: punishes himself when he things he's done something wrong (mostly hitting his head with/against something), collects all sorts of clothing (preferably socks), calls witches and wizards sir or miss, fiddles his pillowcase when he thinks, or is nervous
Personality:Dobby is a very loyal and brave little elf. He is especially fond of Harry Potter and very loyal to him. He would do anything to keep him and his friends safe. He even puts himself in harms way for them. Dobby considers himself to be a good house-elf even though his co-workers seem to think otherwise. They find his desire for freedom and a mind of his own strange and shameful. Despite loving his freedom, Dobby is a hard-worker and he loves work, even though he doesn't ask for much in return.
The elf's favourite gift are socks – preferably mismatched and he often gives socks as gifts as well. He is also a helpful little elf: he helps Winky after she gets drunk on butterbeer.

History: Dobby appeared in Harry's life at the beginning of his second year. Back then he was enslaved with the Malfoy family who treated him cruelly. He received death threads several times a day and he always had to punish himself for disobeying an order. Dobby fears the Malfoys, which is probably why he went to him and warned him of the plot to open the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts. He wanted to protect Harry Potter.
At the end of his second year, Harry had forgiven Dobby and tricked Lucius Malfoy intro freeing Dobby, by placing a sock inside Tom Riddles Diary.
After being freed Dobby was unemployed for quite some time, but he grew bored and unsatisfied about that and went looking for work. He ended up working in the Hogwarts kitchens, accompanied by his friend Winky who had been dismissed from her master earlier. Dobby likes working there, especially since it's giving him the chance to see his friend Harry Potter.
